Making Apple Butter

I love apple butter on biscuits, but I am not a huge fan of the apple butter you can purchase at the grocery store. A few years ago, we had a large amount of apples given to us by someone and I decided to make some of my own and the recipe that I used instantly became my favorite by far so now any chance I have to make some, I will. Luckily last week, my husband had someone bring him some apples from a local orchard that were not " up to grade", but perfectly good apples. I decided that we needed some apple butter and got busy making it.
Very blurry photo of the first batch of apples, but this is what I started with.

Washed them first and prepared to make my diced apples.

I hate coring them, but I can easily do it with the knives I was using.

Measuring the diced apples. I have to have 5 quarts, which means that this needed to be full 5 times.

Yes, I use my crock pot setting on my NINJA cooker to make apple butter. It makes the house smell delicious and I don't really have to do much after the initial work. It is 20-24 hours of pure heavenly aroma.

Here is my hand written recipe that was given to me by my great aunt. I love this recipe and I will be making more soon. I believe we still have enough apples for one more batch.

  1. Well, this looks pretty easy. I would have thought it much harder. And I'll bet the smell is fabulous!

    1. Smell is fabulous and it is fairly easy. The hardest part was peeling and coring the apples.
