Making GingerBread Houses

Have you ever made a gingerbread house? I can't say that I have, but I have always wanted too. I believe my daughter's and I tried once and never succeeded in making one, so we probably never tried again. This year, I wanted to be sure the grand doll got to enjoy the fun of making one so I bought a small kit that wasn't actually gingerbread, but chocolate cookie.

What I realized is that I am not good at piping icing and the grand doll did not want to let it set for the icing to "glue" the house together. However, after a little coaching, we agreed to let it sit for about 2 hours while we done something else. 
 She was so proud of her accomplishment that she had to show mommy as soon as she could.
Mommy was proud of her as well. I think she is happy that I attempt these things so that she does not have too. 
The finished project has to include a snail on the sidewalk . I love the little lights on the top of it, but our windows are awful!

Mom and daughter were happy to show off their project and can you tell that little Miss H might have been into the icing while decorating? It was a busy day and a long day as we had also decorated about 3 dozen sugar cookies as well before we attempted this house. 

If you are caught up in the hustle and bustle that the holiday season brings, remember that the reason for the season is a baby's birth and that family and friends are what truly matter. Make time to make gingerbread houses, cookies, fudge, or something that has been a traditional item in your house.

    The finished product is fantastic...maybe not perfect but... the time spent together working, laughing and bonding is priceless.
    I think my boys and I made one long ago but that was only once...too impatient and it was fun to eat all the things along the way.

      That is my biggest obstacle is that I lack patience! We did have a good time though and I am thankful that we were able to make it.

    Ahhhh! Good for you! And her. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have the patience for a gingerbread house.

      Thanks! As I said before, I am not patient so that sort of thing can be very anxiety filled for me.

    I love her house..and the memories will be cherished.

    When my grands were a little younger, their preK teacher hot glued the sides of a gingerbread house together and then hot glued the roof so all the kids had to do was decorate....
    Their houses were cute. And who eats them once they are decorated?

      My daughter suggested that, but I thought she would surely eat it once it was finished. She did enjoy it as I did.

 As I was looking through my posts today, I see that I have failed my readers. Many of you were aware that my other daughter was pregnant and going to deliver in July, I am sure those of you that knew are wondering why I never posted about that and I must say that life has just gotten in the way, and I thought that I had written a post. Since I know I did not, I will now! He came when Mamaw was out of town! Can you believe that? He actually had the nerve to do something so ridiculous as to come while I was at the Pink Zebra reunion (our annual conference). Something is Falling From The Sky

 Yesterday and today have been very cool days here on the farm and I must say that something that we don't recognize has been falling from the sky. It is wet and seems to be hanging around. IT is certainly what the ground needed as it seems to have soaked it up almost immediately. Rain, glorious rain!! The ducks are loving their pool and the rain, but I truly don't think that they are liking the cooler temperatures so much. I know I am not. I don't mind cool, but wearing my sweatshirt in June is not fun.  The white turkeys are enjoying the coop that my husband put together for them. We have 5 of them and two others. We won't be keeping all of the toms as we have too many.  Nesting boxes made of milk crates that we had lying around work well attached to the back wall.  Here is Tom. Happy Homemaker Monday - 1/8/24

 Hello! Welcome to my first Happy Homemaker Monday post for 2024. I am happy to join Sandra at  Diary of A Stay At Home Mom  to participate in this series. How has everyone's Monday morning been so far? Mine is slow as most Mondays, but I will be busy later. I really need to work on my direct sales business and get my inventory done for the year. Taxes will be soon and I need that information.  The Weather: The weather is predicted to be a little unsettled this week with periods of rain and snow throughout the week. Daytime highs in the 30's and 40's, which is a bit above average with lows in the upper 20's and lower 30's. Not too bad for this time of the year.
