A Good Life Gone
I have been missing in action so to speak as I have been dealing with the loss of a dear man that was like a dad to my husband and myself. He treated my kids like his grandchildren and we loved him dearly.
Pappaw Joe as the kids call him was such a special man. He had lived a good life although he had many struggles, he always seemed to be happy and know that he had a good life. He had been friends with people like Johnny Cash, Johnny Paycheck, George Jones and other singers. He had been on a yacht with stars and had many local friends. He sang in a band, he traveled many states in his lifetime, he had stories that you could listen to for hours and we will miss those stories.
He had worked most of his life for himself. He thought that it was crazy that his brother punched a time clock each day and had to follow someone else's rules. He said people could and should make a life for themselves and not rely on anyone else to make it for them. Pretty sound advice, I would say. He would fix lawn mowers, buy and sell anything, and made life work for him.
He rarely went to a doctor and believed that you could treat most illness and injuries by yourself at home. He had pulled his own teeth as he did not like shots and most dentists would give shots. When he had his heart attack, it had been 35 years since he had seen a doctor and he was fairly healthy other than the heart. The doctors were amazed!
This man was a true gem in life and one you rarely find these days. He was tired and needed to rest so Sunday God finally called him home and he answered the call. It hurts and sad to think that I will never get to see him, listen to a story, or talk to him again, but he knew he was loved and I don't think that he had an enemy so many people will miss him!
God Bless You, Pappaw Joe
