Happy Homemaker Monday - Jan. 26,2026

Good morning on a very cold and snowy Monday here on my little hobby farm. I am excited to join with Sandra at Diary of a Stay at Home Mom and other bloggers to share just what a few of us are doing as homemakers that bring a bright spot to our days. I believe that the art of homemaking is disappearing and it is sad as it simply makes our homes more inviting and much more peaceful.

 *** The Weather ***

As I stated it is cold and snowy. We got about 14 inches of snow yesterday and the temperatures have been in the single digits with wind chills up to 10-15 below zero. Thankfully, the sun is out today, but it is still cold. My husband has been plowing snow almost all day yesterday and is out again today. Roads are in awful shape, and we are under a red travel advisory, which means that only essential workers need to be out. Tomorrow, we are supposed to have strong, gusty winds and it could lead to a lot of blowing and drifting snow, especially here in the country.

*** Right now I am ***

Helping my grand doll with her eLearning and writing this post while keeping the woodstove full and enjoying some hot tea. Later, I will venture out to shovel some more snow and try to clear the car off. I don't plan to go anywhere, but I think I like knowing if we needed to get out we could.

*** Thinking and pondering ***

How much I dislike winter.

*** How I am feeling ***

My foot that I had surgery on it really bothering me due to the cold. I am scheduled to see the podiatrist tomorrow, but I won't go if we are still under a travel warning.  Other than that, I am okay. Feeling the winter blues, but I know the sun today will help ease a bit of that and a bit of fresh air will help as well.

*** On the breakfast plate ***

A cinnamon raisin English muffin with cream cheese and a cup (or three) of coffee. My husband stayed home a bit longer this morning and we made it a snuggle in bed morning.

*** On the lunch plate ***

I am not sure what it will be. We have plenty of leftovers in the fridge and so I am sure I will eat some of them. I might make a couple of hard-boiled eggs for later.

*** On the dinner plate ***

I am thinking I might make biscuits and gravy for dinner since it will be a nice warm dinner when the husband gets home. I enjoy making foods for him after he has been out all day in the cold.

*** On the menu ***

I will be working on it today. I was going to yesterday but decided that I would rather play a couple of board games than work on it. Plus, with the plowing, I never know what time he will be home. It makes dinner a bit more challenging.

*** What I am wearing ***

I have on a sweatshirt and my casual knit pants. I decided after my shower that I would put on something that resembled clothes more than the warm cozy pjs I wore yesterday. It seems that the colder days of winter make it easier to stay in lounge clothes for the day.

*** On my reading pile ***

I am reading A ferry merry Christmas by Debbie Macomber, and I am listening to A Handmaids Tale on my audiobook. It is not something I listen to with the grands here. Too mature content for that.

*** On my TV this week ***

My grand has discovered a show called Expedition X and she really likes to watch it. I will watch Sheriff Country on Friday night, and we are enjoying The Masked Singer on Wednesday.

*** Looking around the house ***

I see a bit that needs to be accomplished today following a weekend of being inside and home all weekend. I have already completed my daily cleaning, but I see a few other things that need some attention today. Where do cobwebs come from and it this cold? Of course, the snow makes for more sweeping and mopping daily as well. Living in the country can be such a daunting cleaning task this time of the year.

*** To do list for today***

1. Daily cleaning
2. Clean cobwebs
3. Make chocolate syrup
4. Clean baseboards in hallway
5. Animal care
6. Clean car off
7. Online work

*** What I am creating ***

I am working on my monthly household folder and bills for February. I will also attempt to work on some journaling later this week. I am looking into possibly working on some digital items for sale as well and I think journal pages would be a great place to start.

*** From the camera ***

A view from my front window. Lots of snow!!!

*** Devotional, Prayers, Bible Verses ***

Have a blessed day and until we meet again, be safe!

  1. I do not hate winter as long as I do NOT have to go out in it ;) I love being inside warm and cozy and without danger on the roads. I HATE winter when I have to go on the roads.. in fact last week I only went out once and it was icy... it was scary... can't wait to have clear roads. You had alot of snow in a short time! yikes. Take care and enjoy your grandkids
