The Circus

On Tuesday, my daughter and I took the grands to the circus that was held locally near us. Now, when I think of circus, I think of the ones we had when I was a child and the many different acts and animals. I will say that even though this one was decent, I was highly disappointed for it to be called a circus.

I was expecting many acts and animals, but sadly the only animals that we got to see were the ones that they walked around one of the rings to basically, say that they had animals. I know many people disagree with circus animals and I know that some were mistreated very badly, but I think you can have some and not be cruel to them and make a good show. What do you think?

The event took place in the inside arena at the fairgrounds. It was raining quite a bit so I am thinking that the weather might have been the reason, but I was expecting to be in a circus tent. I was surprised that this was their main ring and there was another one on the left of this one.

The Ringmaster, who had an accent that made him hard to understand as well as the sound was not great.

The clown. This man was funny, but again not the clown I was expecting. What happened to colorful, face paint, and all the fun stuff that came along with clowns.

Here come your circus animals! The camel, that kids were able to buy rides on. $10 each kid. Of course, the grands both rode.

The Appaloosa horse. Not sure when this became a circus animal, but we have officially owned a circus animal. We have had a few of these as my husband loves the colors of them. I prefer bay Quarter Horses myself.

My favorite! The zebra. I absolutely love zebras and I have always wanted to own one. This one seemed calmer than some, but they can be quite mean animals.

The Circle of Death. The dirt bike in a steel cage. Yes, it is the clown riding it, but he was quite serious with this act. He done a fabulous job and I might say it was my favorite part of the night.

The Juggler. He was talented but made a few drops during his acts. My granddaughter noticed them, so they were not fairly obvious mistakes.

Juggling with fire! Grands enjoyed this a lot!

We all four voted that this was not something we would do. This looks painful!

Spider Man made an appearance. He was great on these and was a fantastic acrobat.

Trapeze artist and I thoroughly enjoy this part of the show. I was worried that there were no mats under these ladies although someone held the rope the entire time.

Loved the yellow outfit!

The youngest performer in the circus.

Dancing in the sky!

She enjoyed herself! Was upset that her sister got a prize from her circus book and she did not, but Mamaw has a prize box at home.

The Three Musketeers

Overall, I would rank this circus at about a 3 on a scale of 1-10. Sadly, it just was not what I expected. The All-American Circus was not my definition of a circus, but the girls had fun and that is what mattered.

What did you think of the circus? Do you have an act that you consider a must for a circus?

  1. Well, it still looks like it was fun. And no knowing about the older kind of circus that we knew, I think the grands had a marvelous time!! I really like Cirque Du Soleil, have you seen them, maybe on T.V.? You got great photos and I almost feel like I was there.

    1. Thanks for the compliment on the photos. I have seen Cirque Du Soleil in person- it's amazing! The grands had fun, but the oldest said it was kind of boring.

  2. The last time I went to a circus I was very disappointed. There was none of the excitement of the ones they held years ago. I do think there can be gentle, good trainers that could manage animals and train them to perform.
The bonus is the time you spend with the kids even though the circus wasn't what you had hoped it would be. Hugs- Diana

    1. I spend every day with these two. However, you are correct about that being most important.
