What an amazing testimony from an ex-Amish man that has found the true words of God. Coming from a very strict Old Order Amish community, Eli tells of being from a very poor family and how attempting to follow the strict rules of the Old Order Amish community, led to many shunning's for his dad and how riding a bicycle led to him being in trouble himself. The son of a very abusive alcoholic and a very hard-working daughter of the bishop of the community, Eli and his siblings lived a life many of us would find oppressive at best.
After going to work at a local pallet shop and learning of the English world, Eli knew he wanted to live a different lifestyle, but leaving the Amish at 18 years old and having no real knowledge of life outside of his community did not make life easy either. For many years following his escape, Eli lived a wild life and a life full of sin, but thankfully, he had found a wife that prayed for him and stuck by his side, when he was tough to live with and one day, Eli found the true meaning of the Bible and found his God. He found the forgiveness and love he needed and that he had been searching for in all the wrong places.
His life changed and he has become known as the Truck Driving Preacher and made a strong social media presence for himself, where he reads his Bible, teaches what Christ can do for you, and speaks of the Amish beliefs in rules and not the saving grace and power of Christ. Eli knows that salvation comes from Christ and that you don't have to have good works or follow certain manmade rules to get to Heaven. The Bible teaches that we must have faith in Christ and believe that he died on the cross for us and rose again the third day for us. We don't need man's approval to get to Heaven; we need faith in Christ.
Very interesting life story and testimony that I highly suggest everyone read. I have heard Eli speak in person and his story is one of great sadness, but praise to God at the same time. He loves the Amish lifestyle and the people, but he has found the true word of God and lives that daily.

I read this book in 5 days. It has 280 pages and the story is captivating.

ReplyDeleteThis looks so interesting. And I have never heard of an alcoholic Amish person! But I guess they are in all walks of life. The Amish have stopped time. But who knows WHAT time is the best one to stop at?
