Olympic Gold

Like many Americans, I am a huge fan of the Olympics. I especially love the winter Olympics due to the fact that snowboarding, ice skating, bobsledding, and skiing are a majority of the events. This year, Olympic Gold is not coming easy to our athletes. The United States are not in the lead or even in the top three in medal count, but that doesn't mean that our athletes are not still some of the best in the world.

American athletes that reach the Olympics must know that they are good. They must know that they are some of the most outstanding in their events. The games at the Olympics are just another major game that they are participating in and many things often go wrong at this time the same as in any other competition that they participate in. I feel that we have seen that in just the ice skating performances this year. Whether it be nerves, a misstep or a just a landing not hit right, things happen and athletes do not always perform their best, but they are still good.

With the United States far behind in medal count, I just want to take the time to thank the men and women that are representing us at these games for the hard work that they have put in to get there and tell them that they are outstanding athletes! We hear so much negativity in the media these days, that it would be nice to hear a simple thank you as many have battled through severe injuries to be at these winter games.

Also, we are seeing athletes like Lindsey Vonn and Shawn White that are older athletes for their sport and yet, they are still there battling injuries to be in the games and still on the podium so they are for sure shining stars in my eyes. Both of these athletes have worked hard to get to where they are and whether they leave with gold, silver, bronze, or no medal, they still are good at their sport!
