Oh, the crazy spring weather we are having! After several days with rounds of severe storms that have included winds of 70+ mph, tornado threats and tornado touchdowns, hail, and all that spring storms bring, we are now dealing with rain and LOTS of it!
Last night, the NWS had predicted us to get several inches of rain overnight and we sure did. At 11:30 last night, I heard what I thought was another strong windstorm moving into our area and got up to see if the grands were coming to our house as they live in a trailer next door. As I approached the living room window, I realized that my wind chimes were silent so what was the noise I was hearing, it was rain! Blinding rain to the point that I could not see our daughter's home and it is not that far from us. How could it possibly be raining that hard?
Upon daylight, it was still raining, and we had lots of water in our yard. I began to check to see what road conditions were like near us as I knew I needed to get out to get prescriptions in a nearby town. Several roads in our county and nearby counties were closed and several areas near us were severely flooded. One county near us was under a red travel advisory as the majority of the roads there were flooded.
Many yards and fields look like this all over the county. Every creek and river seem to be rising quickly and many roads are completely flooded and even washing out due to the rainfall that we have had since yesterday. In our county, we have had over 6 inches of rain, and it is still raining.
This was taken from a car window (not mine). There were reports of several water rescues in a nearby county overnight. I am sure that some were areas where it was hard to tell just how much water was on the road, but it is best to NEVER try to drive thru standing water.
This is a local park in our area. Everything in the park is underwater and the bathrooms are floating away. Very sad to think of the money that it will cost to fix these areas and replace the tables and other items that will float away with these flood waters.
I am sure there is a road there somewhere in all that water. Imagine the damage that those homes are suffering at the moment. Peoples' lives and everything they have worked for are in those homes that are now filled with muddy flood waters.
When you see signs like this and roads closed, please don't try to go past the barricades or drive thru the waters as it is not safe. You are risking your life and those of the emergency personnel that have to rescue you or attempt to.
This is a portion of the road my daughter has to drive daily to get to the local school that she works at. This area of our county is one that finds low-income families that really do not have the resources to recover from these types of natural disasters. It breaks my heart to think of the many families that will struggle to recover from these floods.
Our county has now issued a travel advisory and has declared a county wide disaster emergency. Please pray for not only our county, but anyone dealing with these rains and heavy flooding. We are to have rain thru tomorrow morning with another 3 inches possible tonight.
I will be going to my daughters' house tomorrow as she is scheduled to have a C section on Monday at noon. Please keep her in your prayers as well.
Enjoy this cute
song about rain.
A C section, how exciting! I hope all goes well. How on earth did you manage to get out to get your drugs and take these photos? Oh my goodness, I sure hope the water abates and no more storms!
ReplyDeleteOh Carol, I can so relate. You've been pummeled. We had a lot of rain (inside and out, unfortunately) but not like this. Up north, though, we're very worried about damage from the ice storm. We had a state of emergency too and over a week later, no power in many spots. I hope as you read this you are again a gran and the C-section went well! Three cheers!
