Happy Homemaker - Feb.17.2025
Good Afternoon and Happy Presidents Day! Whether you like the current administration or not, the office of the President deserves respect. Many of the people that are in that office are disliked and many do the job well and some do not, but it is still an office that deserves respect.
How are you? Life is cold here and we have snow again, but my heart is broken by what I am seeing in Southwest Virginia as well as Kentucky and West Virginia with the massive flooding, I have many family members and friends in Southwest Virginia that I am praying for at the moment. The weather seems to be so all over the place this year. Our average temperatures should be in the 40's and we are at 15 degrees F. How crazy!
On to our post and our link up with Sandra over at Diary of a Stay At Home Mom and her Happy Homemaker Series.
THE WEATHER IN MY NECK OF THE WOODS:
Cold and snowy, although the sun is currently shining. Our temperatures are so far below normal, it seems as though the entire new year has been cold and snowy. More snow is predicted for this week, I am so over it! We are not to be above freezing until Sunday.
AS I LOOK OUTSIDE MY WINDOW:
I see snow. This photo was taken yesterday morning when I woke up.
Getting ready to travel out to the store for my father-in-law. My daughter will be going with me as she is off work today because school was cancelled for the snow. Chicken feed needs picked up or I would just stay in today. It seems that most days there are chores to be done around here, but I wish life would slow a bit.
SOMETHING FUN TO SHARE- A BLOG, A VIDEO, A TIP:
I will share the site that I am currently using to declutter with. My home is not too bad, but there are so many items that we have that we just do not use, and it is time that they go. I am really enjoying this series, and I hope that some of you will too. Decluttering is great for the mind too.
THINKING AND PONDERING:
I am thinking about spring. I want to start looking at pretty flowers and working on my flower bed. I want to hear the birds sing, I want to see baby chicks hatch, and all the sunshine that spring brings. I want to start looking into planting our garden and being able to sit outside to read and do other small things in the yard that bring me joy.
ON MY BEDSIDE TABLE:
Since I have been decluttering and cleaning, there are some family photos that need to go to an album and some medicines that need to be put elsewhere. I have a Bluetooth speaker there that I have been listening to music on and a book that I intend to read. This is one surface that my husband does not have access to, so it is usually clean.
ON MY TV:
Fire Country (that I recorded)
Moonshiners (for the husband)
Baylen Out Loud (a young girl with Tourette's' that we enjoy watching)
LISTENING TO:
The hum of the fan that is behind our wood stove to circulate heat. The dog walking across the floor and the cat that has managed to make his winter home under our house in the crawl space.
ON THE MENU ( FOR TODAY AS I HAVE NOT PLANNED THE WEEK):
Amish Steak Bake, Green Beans, Squash, Wheat bread with butter
ON MY TO DO LIST:
Pay bills for father in law
Plan next weeks' lessons for granddaughter preschool
Plan spring break trip with oldest granddoll
HAPPENING THIS WEEK:
Monday- write this blog post
Tuesday - yearly physical, mammogram, work
Wednesday - dental appointment, work
Thursday - clean house, work
Friday - Laundry, Work
WHAT I AM CREATING:
Family ancestor photo album
MY SIMPLE PLEASURE:
A quiet day at home with a good book and some good food.
LESSON LEARNED THIS PAST WEEK:
I have known for a long time that my brother can be very stubborn. This week, I have learned that I can't help him even if I want to. He is being evicted from the only home he has had for over 5 years. The house does not have a stove, a furnace, and is actually probably going to be condemned, but he has not paid the rent and now the landlord wants him out. He does not have a lease, and the landlord has no paperwork for what has been paid as he never writes receipts or anything. He refused a payment from the local trustee as he does not want record of what he earns. My brother seems to think that the judge will make the gentleman pay him back for the time he has lived there due to the issues with the house. I told him that he was the one that had stayed there for 5 years. He has done nothing to help himself as far as where he will go when he no longer has that house and is not currently working only part time. He has two dogs and seems unphased that he may be without a place to live. He is convinced that the judge won't make him move. I tried to tell him that if the guy wants his house, he will be made to move. Won't listen and has no idea as to what he will do.
LOOKING AROUND THE HOUSE:
I see many things that I need to work on this summer and many unfinished projects that my husband needs to work on. I just hope that I can get him started.
FROM THE CAMERA:
A photo taken from the father - daughter dance that my husband and grand doll went to. She looks so grown up in this. They truly had such a great time!
PRAYER LIST:
Southwest Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, and West Virginia where flooding is so bad at the moment.
Our Country
BIBLE VERSE, DEVOTIONAL, PRAYER
This president does not deserve respect. He's violating the Constitution and hurting the most vulnerable among us. I will never understand "Christians" supporting this hatred and pray that God forgives them
ReplyDeleteI did not say that you had to respect the man in office just that the office needed respect.
DeleteOh, planning a spring break trip sounds fun. I forget in the midst of all this gloomy and cold weather that it's really not that far away at all. Hope you are planning to go somewhere fun (and warm!). Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteWe are hoping for someplace a bit warmer but do not have time to travel far.
DeleteI love your thoughtful reflection on Presidents Day and your emphasis on respecting the office of the President—it’s always good to keep that perspective. I'm sorry to hear about the severe weather in Southwest Virginia and the surrounding areas; I’ll keep your family and friends in my thoughts. Your plans for spring, from flowers to the garden, sound so refreshing and hopeful. I’m sure you’re looking forward to some warmer weather! I also admire your commitment to decluttering—it's such a positive step for both the home and the mind.

Thank you. I feel like we get so wrapped up in our feelings about who is in office that we forget that it is a huge responsibility and that office deserves respect. I am sure looking forward to spring. Thanks for your prayers.
DeleteRespect should start from that office and will have respect in return. Disrespect brings disrespect - was not given to predecessor.. like or not his policies respect could have been given. So sorry for your brother. Lovely picture. Have a great week
