Fall Break 2026

Fall Break 2026 is in the books for us and now we must find creative ways to get through the long months that will follow Christmas until Spring Break. I never truly felt the depression that winter brings until the past couple of years, but it seems to hit hard these days.

Part of the grands and I went to spend fall break week with my oldest daughter and her children and then we took a short trip to Evansville, Indiana. During our time with the other daughter, we painted pottery, played games, had fun with cousins, went to Illinois for the day, and just generally had a good time. Miss H got her ears pierced, and she seems to be loving them.

I, however, was astonished at the price they were! I did not ask because I assumed that the prices were reasonable. We went to a Claire's store and I expected reasonable. It was $139.99 for the earrings with free piercing. Are you kidding me? Absolutely unbelievable, in my opinion.

We were intending to ride this carousel, but it was not operating while we were there. The website also said there was a rock wall and other things for kids, but all we found was a small play area for the littles. It was cute, but we were a bit disappointed.

After arriving in Evansville, we enjoy a small trip to Owensboro, Kentucky to the Owensboro Museum of Science and History. It was $5 admission for each of us and there were several areas that the children could do hands on activities and many displays that they enjoyed.

This birds of prey exhibit was a very interesting area for us as we looked at the different birds and talked about which was our favorite. I like the barred owl!

Where do you think this little door goes? The girls were especially curious about it but did not know if they were to open it or not. I suggested that it was there for a reason, so finally they opened it and found...

A MOUSE HOUSE, OF COURSE!!! What would you expect to be behind such a door?

Make your own quilt block was fun and all paper materials and glue were provided.

A giant of an animal. Wooly mammoth and pieces of tusk actually found on the Ohio River.

A bear greeted us not far into the museum.

Well, hello and welcome to my home said Mr. Turtle. What are you staring at?

A cave to explore

Did anyone ever have the MASH game? I did not and really don't know that I have ever seen one before.

Girls were surprised that girls used to love to play with these cornhusk dolls!

Hanging above the bathrooms.

A room dedicated to racing and of course, Miss H truly loved this display.

Here is the website, if you would like to learn more.

I will share another adventure on another post. For now, have a fabulous week.
